BORNEO DIVING

Borneo is the third largest island in the world. It has an area of 743,330 km² (287,000 square miles), and is located at the centre of the Malay archipelago and Indonesia. Borneo is considered to be part of the geographic region of Southeast Asia. Administratively, this island is divided between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

Over the last 20 years Sipadan and Mabul have become one of South East Asia's premier dive destinations. For the shark lovers there is ample opportunity to see white tips and grey reef sharks along Sipadans dramatic drop offs. Mabul offers up some spectacular reefs and walls but is more renowned for its "Muck" diving. A Macro paradise with numerous different species that biologists are still discovering.

We have also put together some land extensions so you can really make the most out of your trip to Borneo.

Sipadan Mabul Resort

Located 20 minutes north of the legendary Sipadan Island, Mabul Island is situated on the North East coast of Borneo. Famous for 'muck diving', Mabul and the surrounding area has become a mecca for those interested in macro photography. The resort itself is nestled amongst a coconut grove on the islands southeast end and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. There is a choice of standard chalets, stand alone chalets and also water bungalows.

The dive center offers 3 boat dives per day with times and destinations posted on the schedule board the evening before. Boat dives are conducted around Sipadan, Mabul or to the neighboring Island Kapali. The total number of divers per day allowed to visit Sipadan is now 120. SMART divers arrange to visit Sipadan on a rotation basis and we apply for the entry permit at the time of booking. Other Islands such as Si Amil, Mataking and Ligitan can be reached by boat if entry permits are not approved to Sipadan, and also offer fantastic diving with a range of pelagic dives. Between 7am and 10pm tanks are also available from the dive shop for unlimited, unguided, buddy system shore diving ideal for macro photography.

The resort has a pool with decking area, an open air pavilion where meals are taken, an air conditioned lounge for watching videos and a huge lock-up airing shed for storing your equipment each night.

This resort is all about diving relaxing and diving again! It is a destination which offers practically every wild, weird, exotic and seldom seen tiny marine animal found in the Indo-Pacific.

CHALETS : (22 detached chalets please enquire for supplements). The 45 wooden duplex chalets each feature two oversized single beds, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, and en-suite facilities. Each Chalet also has its own front verandah.
