SOUTH
AFRICA TIGER SHARKS | |||||
One of the only places in the world where you can get up close and personal to a Tiger Shark outside of a cage is Aliwal Shoals in South Africa. For Shark fanatics, photographers, adrenalin junkies and thrill seekers this is the perfect dive for you! This dive is definately not for the faint hearted the 4-6m Tiger sharks will come right up and look straight at you. Certainly something to get your heart beating faster and if you can keep your brain in focus, fantastic photo oppertunities. The dive is controlled by very experienced guides who will put themselves between you and the shark if things start to get a bit too exciting!! For a good hour you will be drifting at 8m in the presence of these magnificant creatures along with about 30 or 40 black tips and what ever else may turn up! Tiger Sharks are without a doubt one of the most misunderstood creatures in the ocean. After six years of intense research and diving with these beautiful animals, it came to proof that safe diving with these sharks is absolutely possible. This is a baited drift dive done on between 8m - 10m, with the bottom on or around 20m. Being such a shallow dive allows one to spend maximum time underwater. The technique used on these dives is much the same process a Great White chumming, without the aggravation of the sharks. The nice thing about these dives is that it's not only the Tigers Sharks that make their way to the station, but Black tips and Zambezi Sharks are also frequently seen. Because this is a baited dive, one is almost guaranteed to see the Tigers on every dive. The average sized Tiger Shark seen on these dives are around 3m, although sharks of up to 5m have been seen; and up to eight Tigers have been counted on one dive. Diving along side one of these beautiful and majestic animals truly is an experience you will never forget! |
