Andy
Goldsworthy by Andrew Goldsworthy Synopsis The many-pointed star formed from large icicles balances on a rock in a quiet Dumfriesshire valley, a delicate bamboo screen stands on a Japanese beach, a great serpentine ridge of earth extends along a disused railway cutting on Tyneside, four massive snow rings mark the position of the North Pole. The creator of these extraordinary pieces of art is Andy Goldsworthy, who for the last fourteen years has worked almost exclusively with the materials he finds in the outdoor environment. Snow, ice, maple leaves, dandelion heads, twigs, pebbles - wherever he is, Andy Goldsworthy uses whatever happens to be around him. Most of his work is ephemeral and he records his creations in fine colour photographs, many of which have accompanying texts that form an integral part of the work. The artists intention is not to "make his mark" on the landscape, but to work with it instinctively, so that his creations manifest, however fleetingly, a sympathetic contact with the natural world. |

Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss Synopsis Using the sort of crazy characters and nonsensical situations that are the hallmark of Dr. Seuss, The "Classic Collection" brings together his zaniest stories, silliest rhymes and craziest drawings. Reviews The best book ever written. Forget about all the other books you've ever read, this will almost certainly be better than any other. I first read it when I was about 5, and now as a 14 year old I still love it. Its a brilliant book which I have problems putting down. It even has a moral to the story - don't let strangers, especially cats with funny hats and bow ties, into your home while the parents are away. There's funny pictures and an angry fish. Just what you need in a book. A must-have for children of all ages. |

Dance to a Dolphin's Song by Horace Dobbs Synopsis After studying dolphins for many years, Dr Horace Dobbs came to the conclusion that these highly intelligent mammals were using their brains in a way that could benefit human beings. To test his theory he decided to step outside the confines of his scientific training and film an experiment for television. That film, "The Dolphin's Touch", records how he invited three people suffering from different forms of stress and depression to swim with a wild dolphin off the Irish coast. In the case of the middle-aged man the encounter had a dramatic effect, while the outlook of two younger participants improved significantly. For Dr Dobbs they served to confirm other similar transformations and persuaded him that it might be possible, through video film and audio tapes of dolphin song, to bring the healing power of dolphins to anyone unable to experience it at first hand. The result leaves, he argues, little room for doubt that dolphins can generate a sense of well-being in people. In this book the author conveys not only the joy to be experienced when cavorting in the sea with a wild dolphin, he also provides clues to the mental dexterity and perception of one of the smallest of the whale family. The
book provides Dr Horace Dobbs account of his "Operation Sunflower",
launched by the BBC "Blue Peter" programme, a testimony to
Dobbs' experiment with depressives and wild dolphins off the Irish coast
in order to prove that the dolphins possess mental healing powers and
can have a unique influence over man's mind. To conduct this experience,
Dobbs went beyond his scientific training, coming to the conclusion
that the way in which the dolphins were using their brains could benefit
human beings. Dobbs records the effects the mammals have on three chronic
depressives, filming the event of their transformation. He speculates
as to what was communicated between man and dolphin in the incidents
he witnessed, comparing the miraculous uplifting that took place with
the effect of Van Gogh's sunflower paintings on the human spirit. |

Mr. Wilde knows how to reach deep down to the core of our being and shake up the all the useless junk we 've been taught to think and believe. The
Trick to Money Is Having Some! by Stuart Wilde Reviews Flippant, energy-shifting, life-changing book The "Wilde man" does it again, with another in-your-face, flippant book that tosses dogma to one side and makes you see how simple life's rules really are. He's outrageous, and probably intends to be, just to get you to step out of traditional drone-like ("tick tock") thinking and create your own life and realities. Something to offend everyone in this book (as usual), and something to break through the daily snooze and fracture your (unhealthy) complacency. If you are NOT willing to make uncomfortable (at first) changes, don't read Wilde. If you are willing to consider the outrageous, his books are a bargain too good to miss. His wit alone makes each of his books worthwhile. This one reveals the money game to be largely an internal quest for self-acceptance, and vitality, and points out that energy is what's valuable in today's society. |

Life
Was Never Meant to Be a Struggle by Stuart Wilde Synopsis Through an action plan, this book helps the reader to identify and eliminate the cause of struggle in daily life. Reviews Keep this book handy at all times. Many of us were taught by parents and teachers that the only way we could be "good" was to struggle. We were taught that struggle is noble. Wilde debunks this widely held myth and helps us rid our minds of this tape running there. He compares struggle vs. effort and identifies struggle as effort laced with negative emotion. He posits that "going with the flow" is a much better approach. This may sound simplistic, but many of us forget this simple lesson in our day to day battles out in the fray. Keep this book handy. I have re-read mine many, many times and it helps me get re-centered and concentrate on what is truly important in my life. Also, you may want a couple for friends as you will begin to identify the patterns of struggle in others. Wilde asks us to teach others to forego their struggle, and ultimately live. |

Infinite
Self : 33 Steps to Reclaiming Your Inner Power by Stuart Wilde Synopsis Discovering clarity and purpose in life is the focus of this book, arguing that man is an infinite being flowing with the God Force. It helps the reader see life in a more sacred and meaningful way by finding ancient secrets of self-empowerment, enabling them to expand their personal freedom. Reviews Wilde expains the Tao in practical terms. Of all the books I've read there are only a few I go back to time and time again. Infinite Self is one of them. Wilde is simplistic and flippant at first glance, and incredibly brilliant on a deeper level. He talks about chugging along "Highway 33" but his real meaning is deeply spiritual. I find the book takes on different levels every time I read it. A real "growth" book. |
