In Egypt it is horrifying to see the build up of plastic on beaches and in the desert. We have started a campaign called TAT ( Tourists against Trash) where we ask our guests to fill a brown paper bag with waste plastic they find. The guests can then talk to local people about why they are collecting the waste plastic and ask about recycling facilities. When I was clearing a beach which fronted a fish restaurant in the local city, the owner came running out saying”what are you doing?” I said I was preserving the marine life of the red sea as plastic waste in the sea creates many problems and could result in less fish for his guests! 5 minutes later he sent his kitchen staff out to clear the beach.

MOTTO “ Tourists are agents of change as the locals want to keep the tourists happy, so they will comply with tourist wishes”
